REMIX PLASTICS KOKAKO FETAHER EARRINGS BLUE NI RP032BLU

Dual earrings that contrast the beautiful grey with bright colours of the Kōkako wattles.

In Māori myth, the Kōkako filled its wattles with water and brought it to Maui as he fought the sun. Maui rewarded the bird by making its legs long and slender, enabling it to bound through the forest with ease.

North Island: Blue wattle
South Island: Orange wattle

Dimensions: feather 4cm x 1cm at widest point.
Hooks: Hypoallergenic (silver in colour), Clip on option now available (silver in colour). Made from PLA (3D printer waste) in Christchurch, NZ by Remix Plastic.

Interesting Kōkako Facts

  • North Island Kōkako have a pink wattle that turns blue as they mature.
  • South Island Kōkako are presumed extinct as there have been no confirmed sightings since 1967. Although there have been recordings of songs that may be elusive birds, one as recently as December 2021.
  • Female North Island Kōkako do all the brooding of their 50 day incubation, making them more vulnerable to predation than males.

NOTE: Each feather is unique with its own colours (and blemishes) - they are fully functioning and we celebrate their uniqueness, as we hope you do!
